The courier industry and the way couriers insure their vehicles has transitioned from paper to digital. Traditional methods of insuring vehicles included exchanging documents on paper, then email, then downloadable PDFs. Now, BCD has localised administration into one self-service portal which allows clients to access their documents and make changes.
New BCD Client Portal
BCD has launched a new client portal for all customers except Fleet clients (more on that later). The portal gives you instant access to documents; the ability to upload documents; and soon to come, make changes to your policy, including changing vehicles.
WhatsApp communications
All our clients can now communicate with us on WhatsApp over a 24-hour time period. You can talk to us instantly and share and receive documents. Because we now use WhatsApp, you can message us between drops without fear of breaking connection. This means you don’t have to repeat yourself and it saves you time (and time saves you money).
BCD’s Fleet Management app
Our Fleet app is specifically designed for Fleet clients only. It gives you the power to check your drivers’ licences every quarter to make sure they are still within policy limits, which could help you avoid any serious issues if a claim occurs. It also helps educate you and your drivers on best driving practice, integrates telematics if you have it installed, and you can use the app to report claims. All of this makes your life easier, helps your Fleet Insurance run smoothly, and puts you in the best position to save money when it comes to renewal time.
BCD & Courier Exchange | Trustd
BCD has agreed to integrate with Trustd to upload all insurance documents to your Trustd profile, so when you’re working on Courier Exchange, you won’t need to show your documents, but will have a digital passport where your credentials as a driver will be held in one place.
Compliance checks via Trustd
Trusted is a digital platform which acts as an indicator of good, reliable drivers who have worked hard to secure their credibility and security. With a biometrically verified ID profile, Trustd is a centralised point of good driver verification which you can share and reuse with various courier companies who employ you. No more lengthy checks and verification processes which can take days and weeks. Now, with one QR code, your credentials can be given to employers – just like an advanced digital passport. Trustd can also make sure that you’re insured correctly and accurately by automatised reminders notifying you when your documents or insurance is due to expire.
Why digitalise?
Getting on board with digitalisation saves you time, and time is money, especially in the fast-paced courier industry. Digitalisation saves you money, because now, you don’t have to employ people for your admin and when used correctly, it can also save money on your premiums. When we look at how technology has evolved so far, where will be in 10 years from now? Keeping pace with change is not only advisable; it’s vital.
Courier Exchange and Digitalisation
CX are also moving to a paperless customer journey, where the process of employing a courier driver will be verified and checked by CX throughout the whole process. When a courier job is posted on the CX platform, every stage, from raising an invoice and paying the driver to biometrically checking driver credentials will be faster and more accurate. The driver now has a ‘digital passport’ which shows that they have a valid driving licence, up to date vehicle insurance to a certain standard, and Good in Transit Insurance. If you are the company that’s hiring, you’ll have a tight, rule-bound procurement process which will be upheld by the verification of your driver’s identity.
Digitalisation and CX
The courier industry moves fast and so do CX. The days of sending insurance documents through the post (known as ‘snail mail’ for a reason) are rapidly being phased out. What used to take a few days or sometimes weeks for insurance advisers to collate and send out insurance documents, now takes a matter of minutes, sometimes seconds. Invoices, PODs (proof of delivery), insurance and compliance documents are now uploaded on to a centralised systems which are connected to each other. This means that for you, as a CX member, can benefit from faster processes and agile systems.
Price Indexing
Price indexing helps you gauge the current prices of courier loads. Digitalising this option means you can stay informed on a regular basis and adjust your pricing in line with the general trend in costs. The TEG Road Transport Price Index analyses the cost of the UK’s courier and haulage industry on a monthly basis. Providing the price-per-mile cost for commercial vehicles, it factors in supply and demand, and tracks market trends and changes using data collected from aggregated and anonymised transactions.
Customer Portal | Journey
When the driver is en route, the CX customer portal provides journey updates tracking through apps, which cuts out the need for phone calls and messages in relation to load progress. With CX’s digitalised comms channels, you can see where your driver is and whether there are any delays encountered, making the process simpler and easier and eliminating the need to chase.
In the digital era, staying in step with developments in technology ensures drivers and employers can benefit from state-of-the-art software and systems which make running a courier business simpler and easier.
